HomeStead Solutions was created in 1996 as a means of communicating my developing skills in technology and community governance. I saw this company as a means to extend my influence beyond a single employer and as a means to develop self sufficiency late in my career.
I began doing membership surveys in 2006 for the club industry in Canada. National Private Club practice contacted me at that time to discuss forming a strategic partnership to provide benchmarking surveys, membership satisfaction surveys, and strategic planning surveys for Canadian Private and Semi-private clubs. As practicing and former club managers, we already had a strong foothold in this industry and we saw a future in developing this opportunity. Hence, CCMIS was formed.
I returned to work part-time in 2015 as an instructor and in 2016 as the Program Coordinator for Brighton College. COVID-19 in 2020 forced schools to turn to online instruction where my past experience using Zoom and computer technology gave me an distinct advantage. Over the next 4 years and especially with the launch of LLMs In 2022, and with the introduction of many mainstream AI Assisted applications, it became obvious that the world was changing and that students were not learning as they had in the past, nor would they have an easy time securing employment in a rapidly advancing workplace environment. In fact, it seemed very likely that employment in many fields would be disrupted remarkably in the coming years and that there would be demand for coaching and mentoring to assist with career development for both students and transitioning adults. At this time, a strategic partnership with MCM was formed to enhance our ability to provide value to students and transitioning adults.
With Barry's achievement of a CHE designation in 2023 assisting students and transitioning adults became the primary goal of both CCMIS and MCM. However, it was evident that technology was not being eagerly embraced by many educators and as a result, their students were disadvantaged by the instructor's lack of familiarity with LLMs and other forms of AI assisted technology. This opened additional opportunities for developing online services that would not only assist students but also to provide tools that educators could employ easily as they transitioned from an analog world to the digital future. An online campus could facilitate the delivery of these services and so PathfinderCampus.ca was created to help introduce our services more broadly in Canada and throughout the world.
